Critical Considerations & Limitations** * **Weldability:** **UNSUITABLE FOR FUSION WELDING.** The high sulfur and phosphorus content cause severe **hot cracking** and weld embrittlement. Joining must be mechanical (threads, press fits, etc.). * **Anisotropy:** Mechanical properties are highly directional. Transverse ductility and impact strength are very poor due to the alignment of MnS inclusions. Not for parts subject to significant transverse stresses. * **Stress Relief:** For parts undergoing heavy, asymmetric machining, stress relieving prior to final machining may be necessary to prevent distortion caused by residual stresses from cold drawing. * **Not for Dynamic or High-Stress Loads:** Should not be used for critical structural components, shock load applications, or parts subject to fatigue. * **Comparison to Hot-Rolled 1211:** Offers better surface finish, tighter tolerances, higher strength, and improved straightness.
