Cast Stainless Steel HK30, ACI Product Information -:- For detailed product information, please contact sales. -: ### **Technical Data Sheet: Cast Stainless Steel HK30 / ACI HK-30** **Overview** HK30 is a heat-resistant austenitic stainless steel supplied in the static cast form. It is part of the 25Cr-12Ni family and is renowned for its exceptional strength and resistance to oxidation (scaling) at high temperatures. Its primary use is in applications involving prolonged exposure to temperatures ranging from 650°C to 1150°C (1200°F to 2100°F). The "HK" designation is from the Alloy Casting Institute (ACI), now part of the Steel Founders' Society of America (SFSA). --- #### **1. International Standards & Designations** HK30 is recognized under several international standards systems. The most common equivalents are: | Standard Organization | Designation | | :--- | :--- | | **ACI / SFSA (USA)** | **HK-30** | | **UNS (Unified Numbering System)** | **J94203** | | **ASTM A297 / A351** | **HK30** | | **EN (European Norm)** | **1.4836** | | **DIN (Germany)** | **G-X 40 CrNiSi 25-12** | | **JIS (Japan)** | **SCH 21** | --- #### **2. Chemical Composition** The chemical composition (in weight percent) is a key factor in HK30's high-temperature performance. Typical ranges are as follows: | Element | Composition (%) | | :--- | :--- | | **Carbon (C)** | 0.25 - 0.35 | | **Chromium (Cr)** | 23.0 - 27.0 | | **Nickel (Ni)** | 19.0 - 22.0 | | **Silicon (Si)** | 1.75 max | | **Manganese (Mn)** | 2.00 max | | **Phosphorus (P)** | 0.04 max | | **Sulfur (S)** | 0.04 max | | **Iron (Fe)** | Balance | **Key Composition Notes:** * **High Chromium:** Provides excellent resistance to oxidation and carburization. * **High Nickel:** Stabilizes the austenitic structure, providing strength and resistance to thermal fatigue and creep. * **Controlled Carbon:** The carbon content enhances high-temperature strength through solid solution strengthening. --- #### **3. Physical & Mechanical Properties** The properties of HK30 are highly dependent on temperature. The values below are typical for material in the as-cast or solution-annealed condition. **Physical Properties (at Room Temperature):** * **Density:** 7.75 - 7.80 g/cm³ * **Melting Range:** ~ 1400 - 1450 °C * **Specific Heat:** 500 J/kg·K * **Thermal Conductivity:** ~ 15 W/m·K * **Coefficient of Thermal Expansion:** ~ 16.0 x 10⁻⁶ /K (20 - 100°C) **Mechanical Properties (Room Temperature - Typical):** * **Tensile Strength:** 510 MPa (74 ksi) min * **Yield Strength (0.2% Offset):** 240 MPa (35 ksi) min * **Elongation (% in 2 inches):** 10% min * **Hardness (Brinell):** 170 - 220 HB **High-Temperature Performance:** * **Oxidation Resistance:** Excellent up to 1150°C (2100°F). The high chromium content forms a stable, adherent layer of chromium oxide (Cr₂O₃) that protects the underlying metal from further degradation. * **Creep Strength:** Good resistance to deformation under sustained mechanical load at high temperatures. * **Thermal Fatigue Resistance:** The austenitic structure provides good resistance to cracking caused by repeated heating and cooling cycles. --- #### **4. Product Applications** HK30 is the material of choice for demanding high-temperature components across various industries. Its castability allows for the production of complex shapes that are difficult or impossible to form by other methods. **Primary Applications:** * **Heat Treatment Industry:** * Radiant tubes for carburizing, carbonitriding, and annealing furnaces. * Furnace rolls, trays, baskets, and fixtures. * Muffles and retorts. * **Petrochemical & Refining:** * Tube hangers and supports in refinery heaters and steam methane reformers. * Reformers and cracking furnace components. * **Power Generation:** * Components for boiler systems, such as burner nozzles and supports. * Parts for waste-to-energy and biomass power plants. * **Glass Manufacturing:** * Mold components for glass container production. --- #### **5. Fabrication & Heat Treatment** * **Casting:** HK30 is readily cast using standard foundry practices for austenitic stainless steels, such as investment casting and sand casting. * **Machining:** It has low machinability compared to carbon steels due to its toughness and work-hardening tendency. Carbide tools and rigid setups are recommended. * **Welding:** It can be welded using matching or over-alloyed filler metals (e.g., ENiCrFe-3). Pre-heating is generally not required, and post-weld heat treatment (solution annealing) is often recommended to restore corrosion and oxidation resistance. * **Heat Treatment:** The standard heat treatment is **Solution Annealing**, typically performed at 1065°C - 1150°C (1950°F - 2100°F), followed by rapid cooling (quenching) in water or air to prevent carbide precipitation and maintain optimal properties. --- **Disclaimer:** The information provided herein is for reference purposes only. Material properties can vary based on casting section size, heat treatment, and foundry process. For critical applications, consultation with the material supplier and reference to the full, published specifications (e.g., ASTM A297) is essential. -:- For detailed product information, please contact sales. -: Cast Stainless Steel HK30, ACI Specification Dimensions Size: Diameter 20-1000 mm Length <4213 mm Size:We can customized as required Standard: Per your request or drawing We can customized as required Properties(Theoretical) Chemical Composition -:- For detailed product information, please contact sales. -: Cast Stainless Steel HK30, ACI Properties -:- For detailed product information, please contact sales. -:
